Introduction To Disc Golf
Disc golf, as we know it, started in 1960s. From the humble origins as “Frisbee golf”, disc golf has come a long way to becoming a professional sport.
Disc golf is very similar to regular golf: With traditional golf you aim the ball into a hole in the ground, in disc golf you aim your disc to a target above the ground. This target is usually a steel basket with chains, mounted on a pole. The player, who throws the disc, starts at a distance. He has a target given. He throws the disc and picks it up at the place where it falls and throws again. The aim of the player is to hit the target with as few throws in between as possible.
The right equipment is very important for a player to be successful. The disc used in disc golf is not as big as the usual discs. The design and the edge are also different. They are priced between $6 to $20- and are growing costlier by the day! But compared to the ball golf, disc golf is still reasonable.
Disc golf is played in open area, like the traditional golf. But unlike ball golf, it can be played in any open land, if fact, many people prefer playing disc golf in parks.
People of different age groups play disc golf, with equal enthusiasm. Of late, women have entered the sports too. Women’s Disc Golf Association was created to popularize the sport among women. In fact, now it has become a family sport and is a great way to spend time together, outdoors.
Disc golf is an excellent form of exercise, is affordable and lets you get some fresh air. It can be played informally and professionally. So go ahead, throw that disc and see it fly.
